The inner game of tennis is very important to your success. Timothy Gallwey wrote the Inner Game of Tennis many years ago and it was a groundbreaking book at the time. You should read the inner game of tennis if you have not.

Tim says that players must achieve skill mastery first, which means you must learn the fundamentals of your sport. When you play your best tennis, he would say your mind is quiet with no interference caused by self-criticism or over-analysis, such as keep your eyes on the ball or bend your knees.

The inner game of tennis theory states that two opposing mindsets battle for supremacy. A quite tennis mind allows your performance to flow from creativity. However, when your tennis mind is overactive, you force your game.

Gallwey sums up his theory the inner game of tennis:

Self One: The teller tennis mind filled with self-judgments and criticism. This mindset wants to over-control your performance.

Self Two: The doer mindset is the best mindset for peak performance in tennis and happens when you are free and react with your game. This mindset allows you to let it happen.

Gallweys goal was to help students stop the attack of self one so self two can be free to hit shots freely. He used an example in The Inner Game of Tennis. He would have his students repeat cue words, such as back-hit to suspend the trying/analytical mind (self 1) so the creative mind (self 2) could do the job without restrictions.

The key to better tennis–or better anything–lies in improving the relationship between the conscious teller, Self 1, and the unconscious, automatic doer, Self 2.

Most tennis players will perform their very best when the mind is quiet (not overactive) and focused. Youll both excel in this mindset and have the most fun. I apply the Inner Game of Tennis principles with my students. I teach my students about two important mindsets: a learning mindset and a performance mindset.

When in a learning or practice mindset, you are trying to improve your strokes, which is necessary to improve your game. Here is one big problem with this mindset: perfectionistic tennis players get stuck in the practice mindset and fall in love with perfecting their technique.

When you are playing with a trusting or performance mindset, you allow your skills to happen instinctively based on what youve learned in practice. The performance mindset is the quiet mind that Gallwey talks about as self 2, which allows you to perform instinctively. When playing in the trusting mode, your performance is on automatic pilot.

With your inner game of tennis during tournaments, the take away lesson is you have to play in the performance mindset. Dont get trapped by the practice mindset during tennis matches. Youll spend more time coaching yourself and analyzing your strokes, which will slow you down on the court. You want to have a good balance between the performance and practice mindsets to set the foundation for a good inner game of tennis!

How Indirect Sport Lighting Fixtures Illuminated An Indoor Tennis Court And Two Racquetball Courts

A client in McQueeny, TX went online and found on the Internet. He contacted us for a very sophisticated sport lighting system for an indoor facility he owned. This was one of the most challenging, and ultimately rewarding, projects that we have worked on to date.

It involved the development of very complex photometric designs and very special equipment made only in the USA.

The facility itself housed an indoor single tennis court and double racquetball court. For the tennis court, the client wanted tournament level lighting, which calls for a minimum 100 foot candles. For the racquetball court, he wanted general sport court lighting.

There were some special considerations to take into account on this project. To begin with, the roof was built at a pitched angle. In order to install suspended indirect sport lights, the lighting design and equipment company had to provide a special junction box that allowed them to hang perfectly true and straight from the ceiling.

They also had to install extension stems at different lengths to ensure that all fixtures were suspended at the same height.

The racquetball court lighting system was different. It required that all fixtures be mounted flush with the ceiling. It also called for a sturdy impact resistant glass that would withstand direct strikes for high speed balls.

The racquetball court lighting system also had to be fitted with emergency quartz back-up lights in the event of a power failure. This would also the system to instantly come on prior to the metal halide lights re-strike time and allow players to find their way to the door.

Such complex sport lighting systems obviously require advanced photometric design planning. It was necessary for the lighting designers to develop a full three-dimensional model of the building interior. Because they involved indirect lighting, calculations had to be made to determine the reflectance of walls, ceiling, and the floor.

We then rendered a complete installation diagram for both sport lighting systems. This diagram was intended for the contracted that the client had chosen to handle putting in the actual equipment. Support was provided to this contractor by the design staff of the lighting design and supply company.

By rendering the system as a model first, the designers were able to actually exceed the expectations of the client. By calculating reflectance as well as luminance, they ended up with a system that exceeded, on the average, 150 foot candles on the tennis court. The racquetball court was lit at 80 foot candles with near perfect uniformity.

Once the model was constructed in our software, designers knew exactly what type of sport lighting fixtures to supply the client with. For the tennis court, designers provided the client with indirect court lighting fixtures. These fixtures operate off remote ballasts, are designed to tru-hang from sloped ceilings, and house 1000W metal halide lamps.

They also supplied him with SPT series racquetball court lights. These fixtures house 320W Pulse-Start Metal Halide lamps and feature high impact resistant glass. They also have an emergency backup quartz lighting system to compensate in the event of a power outage.

New Delhi, 22 oct. Top seed B.R. Nikshep accounted for Saurav Kalkal to reach the pre-quarterfinals of the boys under-16 with a straight-set win at the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship on Tuesday.
Joining Nikshep in the next round will be second seed Alex Solanki who defeated Utsav Patel 6-3, 6-4 at the R.K. Khanna Tennis Complex.
Karnataka boy Nikshep always held an upperhand over Saurav, breaking his rival in the first game of the match.
Saurav could manage to hold his serve only twice in the entire match and went down to his more fancied rival without much fight.
In the other matches of the boys 16, third seed Paramveer Singh Bajwa beat Sivadeep Kosaraju 6-4, 6-2, while fifth seed Gokul Suresh got the better of Sidhant Bhantia 6-1, 6-2.
Fourth seed Aryan Goveas also made it to the pre-quarterfinals at the expense of Armaan Bhatia 6-1, 6-0.
Vasisht Vinod Cheruku defeated Amarnath Arora 6-3, 6-1, 10th seed Sanil Jagtiani edged out Yash Yadav 7-5, 6-1, while S. Sanjeev knocked out P.C. Anirudh 6-2, 7-6(5).
In the boys 14, top seed Sumit Pal Singh survived a tough battle against S. Manish. The Jammu Kashmir boy was broken in the third game but broke back in the next to draw level.
Just when it seemed that he set was heading into a tie-breaker, Manish broke Sumit in the ninth game and then served out the set to win the first set 6-4.
It was another tough fight in the second set in which Sumit prevailed and the match headed for a decider. Sumit carried the momentum in the final set and surged into a 4-0 lead that virtually put paid to Manishs efforts.
Second seed Pariskshit Somani had an easy outing and demolished Pratyush Chhotray 6-0, 6-0.
For eighth seed Mritunjay Badola it was curtains after the Uttarakhand lad lost to Naitholin Golmei 7-5, 7-5.
In the girls 16, top seed Akshara Iska got the better of Yubrani Banerjee 6-1, 6-2 and moved into the pre-quarter-finals.
